The newly elected Chairperson of the Association began the working week with a meeting with colleagues. A reception was held at the Association’s office, during which Irakli Kandashvili hosted lawyers in a pre-New Year atmosphere.

The Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, Irakli Khandashvili, met with David Simonia, Head of the Legal Aid Service. The meeting took place at the offices of the Bar Association. During the meeting, the parties discussed the specifics of the work of the Bar Association and the Legal Aid Service, ongoing projects, and opportunities for deepening future cooperation. Special attention was given to the importance of close and effective collaboration between the institutions.

The Executive Board of the Georgian Bar Association held its first working meeting together with the newly elected Chairperson, Irakli Kandashvili. During the meeting, the Executive Board discussed current issues and future plans. Irakli Kandashvili congratulated the newly elected Board members on their election and wished them success on the path toward strengthening the Association.

The Georgian Bar Association has elected a new Chairperson. Irakli Kandashvili won the second round of the elections, receiving 1,473 votes, while the second candidate, Irakli Chomakhashvili, was supported by 1,366 members. A total of 2,855 lawyers participated in the second round of voting. As a result of the first round of elections, the Executive Council, as well as the Ethics and Audit Commissions, were formed.

The Georgian Bar Association held elections for its governing bodies. As a result of the vote, new members of the Executive Board, the Ethics Commission, and the Audit Commission were elected. The second round of voting to elect the President will be held within two weeks, with two candidates - lawyer Irakli Kandashvili and lawyer Irakli Chomakhashvili - participating.

On December 13, the General Assembly of the Georgian Bar Association was held. The upcoming elections will be conducted with unprecedented transparency, with dozens of observers and the use of modern technologies. To eliminate any misunderstandings or unfounded doubts or concerns, vote counting will be carried out fully automatically using PCOS optical ballot scanners, while the results of the Chairperson’s election will additionally be publicly hand-counted on site by the vote-counting commission.

“Freedom of Association in Labor Relations and the Right to Strike” – A public lecture for lawyers by Jeffrey Voeth, Director of the Rule of Law Program at the Solidarity Center (USA), was held at the Georgian Bar Association. The participants were welcomed by David Asatiani, Chair of the Georgian Bar Association; Jeffrey Voeth, Director of the Rule of Law Program at the Solidarity Center (USA); and Tamar Gabisonia, Chair of the Labor Law Committee of the Bar Association.
