With the support of the Embassy of the United States of America, the Georgian Bar Association is launching a new large-scale project - the National Mock Jury Trial Championship.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the Supreme Court of Georgia.
The project presentation was held at the Georgian Bar Association. At the official opening ceremony of the championship, the guests were welcomed by the United States Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan, the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Nino Kadagidze, and the Prosecutor General of Georgia, Irakli Shotadze.
The author and head of the project, the Executive Director of the Georgian Bar Association, Giorgi Tshekhani, presented the project in detail and explained the contribution it will make to the professional development of future lawyers and to raising public awareness of the jury trial system that will ensure more public engagement in the judiciary.
The championship will take place in November–December and will involve students from 12 universities. The project includes intra-university training sessions and mock trials for participating teams, as well as semifinal and final rounds, which will be held at the Supreme Court of Georgia.
The National Mock Jury Trial Championship is being held in Georgia for the first time and aims to increase awareness of the jury trial system. The project will assist future lawyers in developing procedural skills and deepening their theoretical knowledge, while also enabling them to establish valuable professional contacts.
