Davit Asatiani Spoke About the Challenges of the Legal Profession at the 6th International Lawyers’ Forum in Berlin

8 May 2025

The Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, Davit Asatiani, participated in the 6th International Lawyers’ Forum organized by the German Federal Bar Association (BRAK), representing both the Georgian Bar Association and the European Association of Lawyers (AEA-EAL), where he currently serves as president. The main theme of the conference was “The Legal Profession on the Frontline.” Representatives of bar associations from 45 countries around the world attended the event.

In his address at the forum, Davit Asatiani emphasized that lawyers are not merely defenders in courtrooms — they bear a special responsibility for ensuring quality justice. Lawyers play a crucial role in upholding fair trial standards, reinforcing the rule of law, and protecting human rights. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world — including Eastern Europe — lawyers continue to face pressure, excessive interference, harassment, and in some cases, even criminal prosecution for carrying out their professional duties.

That is why the protection of lawyers’ professional rights is of particular importance, as the integrity and safety of the legal profession is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy and the rule of law in any country.
