A working meeting was held between criminal lawyers and the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia

11 October 2025

On October 8–10, a working meeting was held between the Public Defender of Georgia and lawyers specializing in criminal justice.

The participants were welcomed by the Chairperson of the Georgian Bar Association, David Asatiani, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, and the Head of the Legal Aid Service, David Simonia.

During the meeting, participants discussed shortcomings identified by the Public Defender’s Office, including restrictions on contacting lawyers, confidentiality and non-disclosure obligations, the rights of persons detained under administrative procedures, and other important issues.

Several problematic matters were raised by lawyers, and to address them, the Public Defender’s Office and the Georgian Bar Association agreed to continue close cooperation in the future.

The working meeting was organized within the framework of the EU-funded project “Support to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia” (DAI).
